All I can say is, this couple totally rocks! Suzanne is a beautiful, free spirit with a huge heart. Dan is full of charisma and is super funny, he’s literally a comedian! Working with this couple was truly a fun and rewarding experience which made this wedding one that I will always remember.
These two had everyone in tears of joy and laughter. The couple had a lot of out of town guests that came from all over to share their this special day. Their family and their friends were all excited for these two to tie the knot, and wow was it spectacular!
The day started with the couple having a first look in the garden court of their home in Vancouver. They continued to take photos at the beach and the Rainbow Power Mural located at West 6th Avenue and Granville Street in Vancouver. If you want to get some unique photos, check out Narcity’s post of the 24 Colourful walls in Vancouver, you might see something that inspires you for your wedding day.
The couple exchanged vows at the beautiful Arbutus Club. The ceremony was officiated by Linda Cohen (who was also my officiant when I got married!), on the covered patio known as the Quilchena Terrace. After Dan + Suzanne said I do, they got everyone on their feet and danced to the song: I believe in a thing called love by the Darkness!
After the ceremony, the Quilchena Terrace offers lots of space for cocktail hour. Myself and super talented photographer and friend, Victoria Black of Wildhearts collective directed the family photos on the rooftop patio.
The reception was held in the large Strathcona Room for a beautiful reception. The buffet spread put on by the Arbutus Club was nothing short of impressive. As a vegetarian, I don’t always get to eat a lot at a buffet, but they had FIVE delicious salads! They also served a paella (a Valencian rice dish) which is something very unique! Late night pizza was served as the guests danced. The Arbutus Club provides a full bar service for event. Check out the catering options for the Arbutus Club. They also offer tasters!
The centre pieces were handpainted wine bottles by Suzanne’s friend who is a talented artist. The pictures at each guest table coordinated with the guest numbers. For example, if you sat at table 3, your centre piece had a picture of Suzanne + Dan at age three. What a unique centre piece DIY idea! The wine bottles were also paired with beautiful succulent and candles in wide mouth clear bowls on the guest tables. In addition, handmade loose leaf tea packed by Dan and Suzanne themselves! Instead of a wedding cake, the paired opted for a HUGE donut from Cartems donuterie with an assortment of delicious mini donuts.
This wedding was wonderful in so many ways! Dan is a professional comedian and founder of the Snowed in Comedy Tour. After the speeches were done, the couple gave the guests their very own comedy show! Dan and his three professional comedian friends each did 15 minutes of stand-up. The guests LOVED this!
Even the Emcee, Paul was a comedian! But low and behold, the best comedian of the night turned out to be Dan’s mom. She brought the house down with her speech about how she raised Dan and his brother, that earned her a standing ovation. It became evident that Dan’s mom might become the next headliner for the Snowed in Comedy Tour.
Another favourite moment and one i will never forget is when the Paul wrote a letter to the couples crushes. He wrote a letter to the bride as Bilbo Baggins. (Did I mention Suzanne has bad-ass tattoos with Elvish writting on her arms and LOVES LOTR?). Paul read a letter that Bilbo himself wrote back to Suzanne for her wedding day. The letter goes as follows:
Letter to Suzanne from Bilbo
My Suzzy Q. It’s me Bilbo Baggins. I wanted to write you a letter on your wedding day to say congratulations TO YOU… and only YOU….it’s normal to say congratulations to both you AND your groom but I can’t bring myself to do it. My heart is filled with jealousy my dearest Suzzy…and I can’t congratulate the man who stole your heart away from me. My dearest Suzzy… I know I’m just 1/2 a man… I know I have furry feet… but Dan isn’t supertall… and I know for a fact he has hairy’er feet. Leave him Suzanne… let’s make our own trilogy… I know there’s a bit of an age difference between you and I… me being 111 years old… I was hoping you would keep me young…splitting Smaug’s hoard in my hobbit hole.I love your tattoos… I love how you can reach the pedals in a car… I love your ears, how they don’t point up to the sky… Instead of jumping up in the air to press the button for the elevator, I want you to catch me and ride you to heaven… If I could do it all over again… SCREW FRODO…. I would have given the ring to you.
Kind words from the couple
My husband was against having a day of coordinator for our wedding this past September. However, I insisted and now he is recommending Tarina to all of our friends who are getting married! Tarina was fantastic from start to finish. She helped us to make sure our special day was stress free and took care of everything. She handled any issue that came up promptly and ensured everything ran smoothly and was on time. Just knowing that she was there to handle all the details on the day of allowed me to relax and take in all the awesomeness of the day. I highly recommend Tarina and Coastal Fern Weddings to anyone looking for a wedding coordinator. Hands down the best money we spent on our day!
